Shared by @SanjeevSanskrit — Not sure when it started. But Mahim Baba grew big time after 80s during rise of underworld. Mithun and Vinod Mehra sang "Waliyon me Wali Maqdoom Shah" in 1982 in a song deliberately inserted in C-grade film "Ustadi Ustaad Se" written by Khalil Siddiqui, showing police and criminals playing hide and seek in Peer procession. Legend says that the spirit of Baba helps police catch criminals. Doesn't seem so considering how Mahim has been hub of underworld and mafia. Baba did not stop the infamous massive procession to mourn hanging of terrorist Yakub Memon. Seems, @MumbaiPolice want to keep city, their families and post-retirement lives safe. @LegalLro - what is your observation? At Peer Makhdoom Shah Baba Urs: @MumbaiPolice carrying load of secularism! For years @CPMumbaiPolice issues official written letter to its all ranks to appealing donations from its all ranks! No one knows when it started, why Mumbai Police adopted it n Who Peer Makhdoom was!
