‘Besharam Rang’ isn’t the first song where Deepika Padukone has danced to cheap lyrics and lewd choreography while mocking elements of the Hindu faith.
In 2011, in a lesser-known film titled Dum Maaro Dum, she appeared in an item number that opens with “Aaj aankh sek raha hai, Kal haath sekega” (today you’re eyeing me, tomorrow you’ll feel me up) and “oonche se ooncha banda potty par baithe nanga” (even the rich sits down for potty naked). There is a mention of how condoms of all sizes are available in the market.
And this song goes – “Bolo Subah Shaam, Hare Krishna, Hare Ram”.
Words like Saali (a slur), potty, paakhand (deception) etc keep appearing in this song.
Maybe, she should make a song calling out her own ‘paakhand’ where she dressed up in three layers of clothes yesterday for promotion of her film Pathaan in Islamic country Qatar, which does not allow women to wear bikini in public. Deepika’s Besharam Rang song, where she wears saffron-coloured bikini while seducing Khan, is from Pathaan.
