IMPACT REPORT: Sewa Nyaya’s Extensive Work with Forgotten Victims of Hate
Date of publishing: 21 Sep, 2025.

WHAT WE DID

1. Support to Parents of Naina Kaur, Killed for Refusing Conversion

– Naina Kaur, 21, was brutally murdered by her stalker Shahrukh just before her wedding, for refusing his demands to convert and do Nikah with him.

– Sewa Nyaya Utthan (SNU) Foundation provided monthly financial aid to her elderly, devastated parents for years, until they could regain stability within their extended family.

2. Livelihood for Phoolabai, Widow of Hate Victim

– Phoolabai’s husband Hari Dhurve was killed during a Holi-related communal clash in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh.

– SNU helped Phoolabai, who is from a scheduled tribe, start a grocery store, giving her financial independence and restoring dignity.

3. Care for Children of Pooja Devi, Killed for Refusing Conversion

– Pooja, a mother of three, was killed in UP’s Ghaziabad by her partner Mohd Alam for refusing to convert and be his second wife.

– SNU ensured uninterrupted education and care for her orphaned children, who hail from a scheduled caste, preventing collapse of their future.

4. Relief to Dharam Sahu’s Widow and Infant

– Dharam Sahu was lynched for opposing forced conversion of his niece in Bihar. His wife was left devastated and vulnerable, with a baby daughter to raise.

– SNU provided them with financial support to restart life with safety and dignity.

5. Support to Nirmala, Survivor of Brutal Hate Crime

– Nirmala lost her husband, father-in-law and sister-in-law all at once in a targeted hate crime in which she too was attacked but survived. SNU extended financial support to Nirmala, who had an infant to raise.

6. Support to Family of Teen Ravi, Killed in Hate Crime

– 17-year-old Ravi was murdered in Haryana for befriending a girl from another community. The killers were the girl’s father and brother.

– Ravi’s family, who are from a scheduled caste, faced both emotional and financial ruin. SNU helped them recover from the debt of medical expenses and regain normalcy.

7. Livelihood to Rajneesh, Son of Murdered Dhaba Owner

– After his father Sewaram was killed by suspected beef traders in UP’s Bareilly in dead of the night, Rajneesh was left with no livelihood as the crime had occurred at the dhaba that he and his father operated. The dhaba had to be closed down fearing safety.

– SNU provided Rajneesh with an autorickshaw, creating a sustainable source of income for his family.

These are only a few of the several cases where SNU stepped in after public outrage died and the victims of hate were forgotten and left without support. SNU remains committed to doing sewa where it matters the most.
