It captures the essence of Marathi Bhakti movement which gave us saints like Dnyaneshwar and warriors like Shivaji Raje.
This is the benchmark for Hindu role models today – character, courage, conviction.
Next step: @UdayMahurkar ji must work with Maharashtra Govt to translate Marathi Bhakti literature into Hindi & English.
Bharat needs it. World needs it. Now more than ever in the era of delusion and confusion.
Naman. 🙇♂️
Was blessed to visit Newasa in Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar dist
– the Karmabhoomi of the great saint Dnyaneshwar where he wrote his commentary on Geeta in Marathi known as Dnyaneshwari & led the Bhakti movement.
This was one of the first attempts in Bharat , apart from the one made by the great saint Chakradhar Swami, to make our religious literature written in Sanskrit accessible to the common man in native language – a revolution in the evolution of Hinduism with emphasis on taking religious knowledge & spirituality to the non-Brahmin class.
Led by Bhakti age saints like Dnyaneshwar , Eknath , Namdev & Chakradhar Swami, founder of the Mahanubhav sect, this revolution had profound impact as it also preached against caste-based inequality. Though started by Brahmins like Dnyaneshwar , Eknath & Chakradhar Swami , it produced many saints from lower castes, thus leading to the famous saying in the Hindu lexicon : “ Never ask the caste of any saint”.
Maharashtra’s famous Warkari movement based on worship of Lord Vithoba ( Krishna) of Pandharpur as preached by a series of Bhakti age saints starting with Dnyaneshwar is literally a movement of national integration. In the annual Warkari Yatra from Alande (Samadhi Sthan of Dnyaneshwar) to Pandharpur, people of all castes take part, from Brahmin to Dalit, forgetting caste differences. They carry Dnyaneshwar’s Charan-Paduka in this yatra.
The biggest benefit this movement afforded to Hindus across the board was creating inner spiritual strength in them which helped them withstand the onslaught of foreign invaders & Muslim iconoclasts like Allauddin Khilji & Mohammed Tughlakh who committed untold atrocities on Hindus of the Deccan but failed to convert them to Islam in large numbers. But for the Bhakti movement, a much larger number of Hindus would have converted to Islam by Islamic fanatics.
Lastly, this revolution with a strong emphasis on attainment of spirituality & a diffused sense of equality, played a pivotal role in creating Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj for Bharat. For example in Shivaji Maharaj’s army even the Dalit Mahars were assigned important roles no less than the other backward classes.
Thankful to Ahilyanagar Dist BJP president Shri Anil Mohite & Dist VHP chief & industrialist Prabhakar Shinde who insisted that i visit Newasa. Also thankful to Mhaske Maharaj Buwa , head of the Newasa Dnayneshwar Math, who explained to me the importance of Newasa in Warkari tradition. I bowed to the stone pillar (Pais Khambh) beside which Dnyaneshwar wrote Dnyaneshwari .
At a time when Bharat’s culture is under grave threat from perverted content makers whose perverted films are leading to rapes & broken marriages Bharat needs another Bhakti movement to spiritually recharge the masses & help them defeat this monster which poses bigger threat to our culture & character than the one posed by Allauddin Khilji or Mohammed Tughlakh.
