In 2007, Aamir Khan came out with Taare Zameen Par, a film on struggles of a child with learning disabilities and how a teacher helps him overcome those challenges.
Even though the subject had nothing to do with religion, Khan introduced a song that went ‘Bum Bum Bole’, on obvious parody of ‘Bam Bam Bhole’, a popular chant for Lord Shiva.
Interestingly, ‘Bum Bum Bole’ was penned by the current Censor Board Chairman Prasoon Joshi.
The choreography adds to the mockery. Aamir Khan shakes his rear to teach small children what “Bum” means. Joshi was given the National Award by the then Sonia Gandhi government for his work in this film.
The film was India’s official entry for the 2009 Academy Awards Best Foreign Film.
