Shared by @SanjeevSanskrit — Mahadji Scindia was no ordinary warrior. He is Gaurav Tilak of entire Bharat.
My naman to @UdayMahurkar ji for invoking his legacy.
Please read every word of his post.
Two humble yet urgent requests to Uday ji under Save Culture Save Bharat, specific to Maharashtra:
1. Revive our warrior & saint history in Hindi, English, Marathi. The ignorance is embarrassing for entire nation.
2. Translate core Marathi texts of saints, scholars and heroes into Hindi & English.
Let the world witness a most brilliant civilizational fire.
Please partner with Maharashtra Government for this and lead this.
I stand ready to support this fully. This will be a turning point.
I had tears in my eyes when i saw the poor condition of the great Maratha general Mahadji Scindia’s ancestral Jagir fort of Jamgaon in Maharashtra’s Ahilya Nagar dist. – fort of a hero who is 3rd only to Ch. Shivaji & Peshwa Bajirao in standing. He controlled Mughal Emperor for 12 years & compelled him to ban cow slaughter & realised Shivaji Maharaj’s dream of Hindu Pad-Shahi besides delaying British take-over of India by 20 years by his unmatched valour & diplomacy.
The walls & temples in the massive fort, spread over 80 acres, are in tatters or have completely given away. The palace in which an agriculture college is being run in the name of Mahadji Scindia, is giving away in many places or is on verge of collapse.
It is a matter of great pain that the fort of a person who re-established Maratha, rather Hindu, supremacy, after the Maratha defeat in 3rd battle of Panipat & should be seen as one of the greatest Hindu generals of India in past 1,000 years, is lying in such decay.
It was in the Jamgoan Fort that Mahadji Scindia adopted his brother Tukoji Scindia ( who sacrificed his life in the third battle of Panipat) grandson, Daulatrao Scindia, as his successor on the Gwalior throne.
Significantly, just 100 kms away from here the Govt is spending Rs 600 crores on the development of Chondi, the birthplace of Punyashlok Ahilyabai Holkar & rightly so.
I appeal Maharashtra CM @Dev_Fadnavis ji to allocate Rs 100 crores for Jamgaon’s development as a centre of history tourism by repairing the fort & its crumbling edifices it. A museum on the life story & contribution of Mahadji Shinde & even other things could be created using the repaired edifices.
The place can be made part of a 2 or 3-day tourist circuit that would take tourists to Ahilyabai’s birthplace & Jamgaon besides the beautiful structures & temples built by the Scindia family in medieval period in nearby Shrigonda & the famous Sinhgadh fort & Shivneri fort ( birthplace of Shivaji Maharaj ) near Pune.
The fort was donated by late HH Jiwajirao Scindia of Gwalior, husband of Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia , grandfather of Union Minister & @JM_Scindia & descendent of Mahadji, , to a well known education trust several decades ago in good faith without realising that it would lead to such a state.
