Lost (2023)

Film: Lost

Date of Release: 16 February 2023

Director: Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury

Producer : Zee Studio

Lead Cast: Yami Gautam

Lost (2023) is the story of a reporter named Vidhi Sahani (Yami Gautam) probing about the sudden disappearance of a theatre activist. While chasing a lead, she meets a man in a mosque, where the setting is all sombre and saintly (unlike Bollywood’s mandirs, in which characters either insult bhagwaan or act like buffoons for cheap humour).

Vidhi, a Hindu woman, instantly covers her head because she knows how to conduct herself in a mosque. She also impresses her lead by telling about her previous visit to Ajmer Sharif and her spiritual experience there. She even points out that she went there by herself.

We don’t know why this advertisement was necessary. We also don’t know why writers Shyamlal Sengupta and Ritesh Shah needed to show that a Hindu woman can adapt to Islamic rules effortlessly. However, we know that Bollywood is far from respectful when depicting Dharmic devotion onscreen.

What was the last movie in which a Muslim character discussed Hindu shrines with the same level of reverence?
